Dr Marquard Smith

Marquard SmithStarting fall 2015 former advisory board member Dr Marquard Smith will be working with the MFA program as a research associate, consulting on topics relevant to fine art research, teaching and learning, contextual and critical studies.

Dr Marquard Smith is an academic, curator, commissioner, programmer, and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Visual Culture. Marq is author of The Erotic Doll: A Modern Fetish (Yale UP), and editor and co-editor of over twenty books and themed issues of journals including What is Research in the Visual Arts? (Yale UP), Visual Culture Studies (Sage), The Prosthetic Impulse (The MIT Press), and Stelarc: The Monograph (The MIT Press). His academic roles have included Head of the School of Art and Design History, Kingston University, London, Research Leader and Head of Doctoral Studies in the School of Humanities at Royal College of Art, and Founding Director of the Institute for Modern and Contemporary Culture at University of Westminster, London. Exhibitions he has curated include ‘How We Became Metadata’ (London, 2010), ‘The Global Archive’ (London, 2012), ‘Jordan McKenzie: An Englishman Abroad’ (Istanbul, 2014), and most recently ‘How to Construct a Time Machine’ (2015) at MK Gallery in Milton Keynes.
