In the summer of 2006, Katarina Zdjelar finished the master Fine Art at WdKA's Piet Zwart Institute; she was the winner of the first ‘Promotieprijs'. In TENT., she now presents a review of her video works of the last four years. In them, she formulates acid yet catching comments on contemporary social and political issues.
Parapoetics is the first comprehensive presentation of the emerging Rotterdam-based artist Katarina Zdjelar. The exhibition concentrates on recent work, presenting a group of her videofilms of the last four years, alongside with a series of live events. Katarina Zdjelar invites guests such as the performer/ writer Caroline Bergvall (London), sociologist Willem Schinkel (Rotterdam) and philosopher Mladen Dolar (Ljubljana), who has written extensively on the essence of the voice. A Parapoetics reader will be released at the end of the exhibition.
In Zdjelar's video works, the mispronunciation, reformulation or forgetting of language, challenges fixed opinions on the relationship between language and culture. And thus simultaneously opens a new perspective on representation, creativity and mediation.
Katarina Zdjelar (Belgrade, 1979) is a Rotterdam-based artist whose work is rapidly gaining international acclaim. Zdjelar has participated in many group exhibitions (incl.
