Florian Cramer: Research Professor Creating 010
Within Hogeschool Rotterdam, Florian Cramer is a Research Professor in New Media of Creating 010, a centre focusing on two areas of research: Communication in the Digital Age and Cultural Diversity. As a part of his post, he works with both the Willem de Kooning Academy and the Piet Zwart Institute in different capacities.
In collaboration with the Institute of Network Cultures, he has also worked actively to bring publishers, writers, designers and theorists together to think about the future of print in a post digital era.
He is the author of numerous essays on literature, art, computer culture, copyleft and the politics of media. His book, stemming from his doctoral research, Words Made Flesh: Code, Culture, Imagination, offers a succinct cultural history of imaginative computation, reconstructing both the obsessive persistence and contradictory mutations of the phantasm that turns symbols into the physical, and words are made flesh.
His most recent publication, Anti-Media: Ephemera on Speculative Arts, challenges a variety of conventions and discusses a range of topics that come together in an critical and at times playful manner. Topics range from internet art, pop culture and 17th century poetry, to electronic literature, amateurism and post-digitality.
Prior to these activities, he was a researcher and teacher at the Peter Szondi-Institut of Comparative Literature, Freie Universitaet Berlin, with a focus on literature, arts and media. From 2006-2010, he was Course Director of the Master Media Design and Communication programme (Networked Specialisation) at Piet Zwart Institute.
Parallel to his many activities as a writer, photographer, filmmaker and theorist, he is a part-time programmer at WORM, the Rotterdam-based Institute of Avantgardistic Recreation.
